1、 What is a direct insertion LED?
Direct insertion LED is actually an energy-saving and environmentally friendly material that can convert electrical energy into visible light, also known as light-emitting diode. Direct insertion LED consists of three parts: bracket, silver glue, and gold wire. The bracket is responsible for pins, conductivity, and support, the silver glue is responsible for adhesion and conductivity, and the gold wire plays a key role in connecting the positive and negative electrodes. All three of them have the function of conductivity.
2、 What is the purpose of direct insertion LED?
Direct insertion LED has also been favored by countless friends due to its high luminous efficiency, low energy consumption, rich and colorful colors, and simple and convenient use. Direct insertion LED has also become a "hot commodity" and entered the lives of thousands of households. It has played an indispensable role in many aspects, and has been widely used in the gift craft market, landscape lighting market, automotive parts market, backlight market, and traffic light market. For example, the flashlights, bedside lamps, tube lights, pendant lights, side lights of cars, and traffic signals on the road that we often see in our daily lives all have the addition of LED. LED has become an indispensable material for obtaining light sources in our daily lives, and the existence of direct insertion LED has also made our lives more colorful.
At present, there are two main packaging methods for LED lights (light-emitting diodes), which are the main components of LED displays, namely direct insertion and surface mount. Generally speaking, direct insertion LED is mainly used for outdoor display screens, while surface mount LED is used for indoor LED large screens. Besides that, what other differences do they have?
The packaging of direct insertion LED adopts the form of encapsulation. The process of encapsulation is to first inject liquid epoxy resin into the LED molding cavity, then insert the LED bracket that has been pressure welded, and place it in an oven for the epoxy resin to cure. After that, the LED is detached from the mold cavity and molded. Due to its relatively simple manufacturing process and low cost, it has a high market share. The direct insertion type has a large volume and can be operated by manual plug-ins or AI machines. Due to the high brightness of the direct insertion LED and the ease of waterproof treatment, it is generally used as a light source for outdoor LED displays.
SMT LED is attached to the surface of the circuit board, suitable for SMT processing, and can be reflow soldered. It effectively solves the problems of brightness, viewing angle, flatness, reliability, consistency, etc. It uses lighter PCB boards and reflective layer materials. After improvement, the heavier carbon steel material pins of the direct insertion LED are removed, so that the display reflective layer needs to be filled with less epoxy resin, aiming to reduce size and weight. In this way, surface mount LEDs can easily reduce the weight of the product by half, making the application smoother. SMT LED is generally used as the light source for indoor LED screens, but with technological breakthroughs, the brightness of SMT LED has been greatly improved, and waterproof treatment can also be well solved. Therefore, SMT LED is increasingly being applied to outdoor LED displays.
